KCC Scams Update

Dear Kent Residents

This week we received reports from Kent Police of courier fraud targeting residents in Sevenoaks. The police will never telephone and ask for your bank card and pin to be collected by a courier as part of an investigation. Please continue to warn friends and family so they stay safe.

Kent Police report numerous reports of Courier Fraud in Sevenoaks, Kent.

❌ The residents were called and told they were the calling from Hammersmith Police Station. The scammer said they need to help the Police catch fraudsters working at their bank branch and to withdraw money from their account. A courier would call at their house to collect.

🚨 This is a scam.

❎ The Police never telephone and ask you to withdraw money from your Bank to be collected by a courier to assist in an investigation. Nor ask to collect your Bank Cards by a courier for the same reason.

If you think that you may have been a victim of this or any other type of scam, then contact your Bank immediately, which you can do by calling 159 and report it to Action Fraud at www.actionfraud.police.uk or call 0300 123 2040.

Bird flu restrictions lifted in Elham – but Kent urged to remain vigilant

The last of the disease control measures put in place near Elham, Folkestone and Hythe, following confirmation of the highly pathogenic (HPAI) H5N1 strain of bird flu in a commercial poultry premises in the area in July, has been lifted.

Kent resident scammed with holiday package on social media

⛔ Resident saw a holiday package on social media and booked it online giving two payments that totaled over £1000. The company never booked the holiday and they were blocked when trying to find out information.

🚨 This is a scam.

When the resident contacted their bank, the bank declined their claim and they did not receive a refund or compensation.

A problem with UK’s air traffic control system on Monday 28 August has caused some delays and cancellations to flights.

Scams impersonating financial regulator double

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said its impersonators aim to get people to hand over money or sensitive information, such as bank account PINs and passwords. The public reported more than 7,700 instances of this type of scam to the FCA’s contact centre so far this year.
