KCC Scams

28 July 2023
Dear Kent Residents

At the end of last week we were notified of a bird flu outbreak in Hythe. This week Trading Standards have been out door knocking across the area to warn and inform residents who may keep poultry.

There has been a rise in online concert ticket scams across social media channels so please let friends and family know to ensure they stay safe online when purchasing events across the summer.

For the latest scams alerts as we receive them please add us on Instagram or Facebook.

Kind regards

Victim Safeguarding Officer

Scam concert tickets on TikTok

⛔ Kent resident purchased two concert tickets on TikTok via bank transfer but never received the tickets. When they contacted the seller to find out where the tickets were they then asked for more money to change the name on the ticket, however, the tickets were unnamed. The resident realised this was a scam and asked for money back but there has been no more contact from seller or a refund.

We have had reports of residents in Kent targeted by ‘brushing’

⛔ Brushing is a deceitful technique used by online sellers to boost their sales by creating fake orders. These are then sent to unsuspecting member of the public whose details they have obtained fraudulently. Many online sites rate sellers by criteria including seller ratings. The order sent out then has a fake review on the sellers website, making them look legitimate and more ‘trustworthy’.
